A Transcription task is a Supervision task that allows you to review or enter text the system could not confidently read from a document. It helps ensure accurate final data when the system’s confidence is low.
Before this task: The system classified the document, matched it to a layout, and attempted to read the configured field and table-cell values.
Why this task was generated: The Manual Transcription Block determined that one or more values require human review. This can happen when machine confidence is below the applicable threshold or when the flow or layout explicitly requires manual transcription. The task opens as either Field Transcription or Table Transcription.
How the result is used: Your submitted transcription is used to complete document processing and populate the document output. When consensus is configured, the system may require matching transcriptions before it finalizes the value. Accurate transcriptions protect downstream systems and business decisions from incorrect extracted data.
For the separate document-level extraction experience, see Flexible Extraction.
When Transcription tasks are created
The Manual Transcription Block must be enabled in the flow. The system then creates work according to the flow and layout settings:
Field Transcription: A field can be sent for review when the confidence of its machine transcription is below the applicable target accuracy. A layout can also require human transcription through settings such as Consensus or Supervision Always.
Table Transcription: A table can be sent for review when one or more cell values are below the applicable confidence thresholds. Enabling Table Output Manual Review sends every table in the layout to Table Transcription. Blank cells can also be configured for manual review.
For configuration details, see Transcription Settings and Document Processing Subflow Settings.
Start a Transcription task
Go to Tasks > Perform Tasks.
In the Transcription row, click Perform Tasks.
The task opens the Field Transcription or Table Transcription experience required by the document.
Field Transcription
Field Transcription asks you to enter the value shown in the highlighted field. The task may include text, checkbox, signature, or other configured field types.

Complete a Field Transcription task
Review the highlighted area in the document panel.
Enter the value in Enter the value on the page. For checkbox and signature fields, select the appropriate state shown in the task.
Click Submit to save the value and move to the next location or field.
Continue until the confirmation screen appears.
Review the number of fields in Submit Fields, and then submit the task.

The ALL FIELDS list shows the fields included in the task and their status. If one field has multiple identified locations, submitting a value moves through each location before the task advances to the next field. All occurrences included in the task must be reviewed.
Mark fields as illegible or not applicable
Use Mark Illegible when the value cannot be read.
Use Mark N/A when the document explicitly contains an N/A or Not Available value.
Field validations and supported input
A field's data type can enforce formatting rules. If the value on the page is correct but does not satisfy the configured rule, use the validation-override action shown in the task's shortcut panel.
When Supervision Transcription Masking is enabled in the Manual Transcription Block, the input prevents characters that are invalid for the field. Field Transcription accepts up to 2,000 characters for a standard text field. If a stored transcription is truncated at that limit, the field is flagged with an exception in the Document Output Page.
For language and character coverage, see Supported Languages and Supported Characters and Default Data Types.
Table Transcription
Table Transcription presents the document image and an editable table grid. Review the cells that need attention, correct their values, and submit each table included in the task.

Understand the review indicators
Orange cells in the table grid require review.
Blue highlights in the document panel are approximate, machine-predicted locations for the selected cell. They do not indicate the cell's review status.

Complete a Table Transcription task
Select an orange cell or use the shortcut for moving to the next cell that needs review.
Compare the cell value with the highlighted content in the document image.
Edit the cell when needed. Data-type validations also apply to table cells.
Repeat until all required cells in the current table have been reviewed.
Click Submit. If the task contains another table, it opens next. Submitting the final table completes the task.

Manage rows and columns
If the table has no rows, click Start Table.
Right-click an existing row to see the available row actions, such as inserting a row above or below or deleting a row. Available actions depend on whether the table is independent, a parent, or a child table.
Drag a column header to reorder columns.
Open ALL COLUMNS in the right panel to show or hide columns. A hidden column is returned as blank in the output.
Use DOCUMENT DETAILS to review the submission, document, and layout variation associated with the task.
Nested tables
Parent and child tables are included as separate steps in one document-level task. Child tables are presented before their related parent tables so their rows can be reviewed in context. When possible, the system assigns Table Identification and the related Table Transcription work to the same data keyer.
Handle an incorrect layout or reject a document
If the assigned layout does not match the document, open DOCUMENT ACTIONS and select Mark Layout Incorrect. If an enabled Reprocessing Block is present, the layout is removed from the document and a Manual Classification task is created. Otherwise, processing ends without extracted data.
To stop processing a document for a configured business reason, select Reject Document and choose a rejection reason. For setup details, see Configuring Custom Rejection Reasons.
Keyboard shortcuts
Press F2 in a Field Transcription or Table Transcription task to open the shortcuts available for the current screen. If updated shortcuts are enabled for your account, the panel lets you switch between the current and legacy shortcut sets. Use the panel as the source of truth because available actions vary by task type and screen.
